Leslie
Mouton

A
Diary of Breast Cancer
About Leslie
Mouton
Energizing,
inspiring, and
astonishing, these words do not begin to describe
Leslie Mouton's story.
Add
the words bold,
bald, and
beautiful and still the story is incomplete.
Couple
those words with television news
anchor, a diagnosis of breast cancer, and an extraordinary woman
determined to share her story with everyone tuning in
and you have only the beginning lf Leslie's story.
Leslie is an inspirational
motivational speaker and has touched lives all across the
country. Leslie is an anchor and reporter at KSAT-12 in San
Antonio, Texas. She has covered many stories during her career,
but in October 2000 she began reporting on the most important
story of her life. Her own.
At the age of 35, she discovered
a lump in her left breast during a monthly self-exam. That lump
turned out to be cancer. Rather than hide and wallow in
self-pity, she decided to confront her cancer with cameras close
behind. Her entire battle, on tape, for the public to see.
Surgery, chemotherapy, hair loss, radiation - a private battle -
made public in hopes of helping other women.
She is a volunteer for American
Cancer Society and a board member of WINGS, a non-profit group
dedicated to providing care to women with breast cancer who
don't have insurance. . Leslie's family, Air Force pilot, Major
Tony "Maddog" Mattox, and daughter Nicole, have been,
and continue to be, her strength and support through her battle
with cancer.
They
Lost Their Looks, But Persevered

"I loved myself
more." Leslie Mouton's career as a TV anchor revolved
around looking good — but when she was diagnosed with breast
cancer, she faced the harsh reality of losing her hair. At
first, Leslie wore a wig to work, but then she decided to go on
air without her wig. Bald and beautiful, Leslie says that her
experience has helped her grow spiritually, emotionally, and
physically. "Many of us hide behind the exterior," she
says, "because we're scared to look at the
interior."
